Two years ago my friend Markus CM Schmidt asked me if I could imagine composing a soundtrack for his film „The Last Catch“, a documentary about the vanishing blue fin tuna in the Mediterranean Sea. Of course I could. Working with the images inspired me: I could litterally smell the salty deep-blue ocean, breathe the atmosphere of battered french ports, be a part of a hard-working trawlers´ crew under the glissening southern sun, hoping for a good catch.

The soundtrack is based on a few recurring elements: Mondlicht, the main theme, is the heartbeat of the story. Rusty crackles, billowing echoes and edgy drumshots merge with human action above and under the water surface. Sounds of a greedy global market and individuals struggling to survive.

The film was shown in several european film festivals (besides Kuala Lumpur) winning Awards in the Cineambiente Festival in Torino, the NaturVision Filmfestival in Ludwigsburg and the SiciliAmbiente Festival in San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily.
